Steve McQueen + Husky 400

On May 14th, Bonhams will auction Steve McQueen’s iconic 1971 Husqvarna 400 cross motorcycle– along with various racing trophies won by the “King of cool” himself. What’s that? Husky who?
With its signature red and chrome glistening gas tank, the Husqvarna (or “Husky” as it’s affectionately known) was a stunning beauty of a bike, and a mud-slinging beast on the American motocross circuit. Back in the 1960s, the increasingly popular sport of American motocross was bogged down by clumsily modified (not to mention heavy) Harley-Davidson, Triumph & BSA road bikes

Damian Ortega & Beatle Explode

Damian Ortega, in Cosmic Thing (2002), one of his most celebrated works disassembled a Volkswagen Beetle car and re-composed it piece by piece, suspended from wire in mid-air, in the manner of a mechanic’s instruction manual. The result was both a diagram and a fragmented object that offered a new way of seeing the “people’s car” first developed in Nazi Germany an later produced en masse in his native Mexico.
Damián Ortega was born in 1967 in Mexico City and currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
